As a society, we are less active than ever before – we rely heavily on motorised transport, fill our home and work environments with energy-saving devices, and many of us have sedentary jobs. And in case you haven’t noticed, it’s starting to show!

Despite the resounding message that this isn’t a healthy way to live our life, there is a huge reluctance to change. Why? Because of the misconception that activity and exercise means toil, sweat and tears!

Life is full of pressures and busy routines for most of us. It’s easy to believe that our lifestyle doesn’t have enough flexibility to include activity. Taking time out to visit the gym for an hour every day may be practically impossible, and jogging home after work just isn’t an option for most of us.

It can have positive effects on mood, self-esteem, stress and anxiety levels, and improve sleep, energy levels and general fitness. Wouldn’t it feel great to run for a bus and be able to ask for your ticket without gasping for breath? Or climb a flight of stairs whilst continuing a conversation?

For those of you who are still thinking “I hate exercise, I don’t want to exercise, I’m not going to exercise” the reality is that you don’t have to!
