Health professionals from all over the UK were in Derbyshire last week (Thursday) to attend a National Obesity Forum workshop, hosted by Slimming World at their head office in Alfreton.
More than 70 GPs, nurses, dietitians and public health specialists from as far north as Aberdeen to as far south as Surrey attended the first ever ‘Obesity Diploma’ day, designed to improve understanding of obesity across the health sector.
Speakers at the event included National Obesity Forum (NOF) Chair, David Haslam, who has just been made a Professor by the University of Aberdeen.
NOF chose Slimming World’s Alfreton headquarters to host the one-day course because of its central location, state-of-the-art technical facilities and high quality 260 seat restaurant.
Maria Voce, Company Secretary for the National Obesity Forum, says: “We’re always so impressed by the facilities at Slimming World. It’s a marvellous site. And we’re always so warmly welcomed whenever we visit the offices for meetings. NOF’s main office is in Nottingham and, with Slimming World being so central and with such modern facilities, it made absolute sense to hold the event here.”
Carolyn Pallister, Slimming World Dietitian, who attended the event, says: “We were delighted to be able to host such an important event and to continue our great work with the National Obesity Forum.
“It was an excellent day. The delegates have improved their knowledge of obesity, making them better equipped to help overweight patients in their local community. It was an intense session but really interesting and, judging by the compliments our kitchen staff received, the slimming yet filling and tasty Food Optimising meals on offer at lunchtime really helped to keep everyone’s mind fresh for the afternoons learning.”
