Looking for a healthy eating plan?

Type healthy eating plan into Google and your search will return a whopping 9 million plus results! That’s a lot of companies providing healthy eating plans… and a lot of people searching for healthy eating plans. So how do you know if you’ve found the right one?

The Government has eight guidelines for a healthy diet and Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, Food Optimising, agrees with every single one! On top of that, it’s a healthy eating plan based on eating satisfying, filling meals packed with normal, everyday food.
 
So if you typed in ‘healthy eating plan’ and found Slimming World, read on to discover why you’ve come to the right place!

Guideline 1: Eat plenty of foods rich in starch and fibre

Whichever Food Optimising choice you go for, there's a wealth of starchy, fibre-rich options to choose from including pasta, potatoes, rice, pulses, cereals, bread. Our eating plan makes sure that you get the recommended daily amount of fibre to keep your body healthy.

Guideline 2: Eat lots of fruit and veg

At Slimming World fruit and veg are Free Foods. Free Foods are the master-stroke that makes Food Optimising fast, effective and so easy. With Slimming World you can enjoy as much Free Food as you like; there’s no weighing, no calculating, no estimating, no counting and not a point or a unit in sight.

Guideline 3: Eat more fish

The Foods Standards Agency recommends that for a healthy diet we eat more fish and that we squeeze in at least one portion of oily fish each week. At Slimming World fish is yet another of our Free Foods. Packed with protein and naturally low in calories, fish is mega-satisfying for the appetite and superbly slimming too.

Guideline 4: Don't eat too many foods that contain a lot of fat

Unlike other diets, at Slimming World those fatty foods that we crave so much are not banned when you’re healthy eating. We do help you make healthy choices though – we’ll show you how to naturally limit your intake of fatty foods and continue to lose weight.

Guideline 5: Cut down on sugar

No food is banned at Slimming World – we recommend a wonderful mix of freewheeling in your diet along with just enough structure and control. Syns provide the control. Foods with a Syn value are those foods that would most certainly jeopardise our weight loss if we didn’t control them. Sugary foods and drinks are naturally limited by their designated Syn values. Don’t worry though you can still enjoy a cuppa with sugar – every day you can enjoy 5 to 15 Syns.  

Guideline 6: Try to eat less salt

The Food Standards Agency tells us that most of the salt we eat – about three-quarters – is already in the food we buy, such as some breakfast cereals, soups, sauces, bread and ready meals. So you could easily be eating too much salt without realising it. We encourage our members to create satisfying meals that the whole family will love packed full of Free Food and using the thousands of quick and easy recipes on our website (free for all members).

Guideline 7: Get active

We won’t ask you to join in an exercise class or wear Lycra (unless that’s what tickles your fancy!), and there’s no judgement about how much or how little activity you do. Guideline 8: Drink plenty of water

The Food Standards Agency recommends we drink about 6 to 8 glasses of water, or other fluids, every day to stop us getting dehydrated. The good news is sugar-free drinks and low-cal drinks are all Free as part of the Slimming World healthy eating plan.
