Be a better friend to the environment for Earth Day
Not only can following the Slimming World plan help you live a healthier life, it can help you live more sustainably, too. With Earth Day coming up on April 22, try out these three small steps that also align with Slimming World’s healthy eating plan, called Food Optimizing, and our Body Magic activity program, which will help you gradually build moderate exercise into your everyday life. The result? A healthier you and a healthier planet.
- Ride a bike or walk. Sometimes you have to hop in a car, but for short trips around town, consider walking or riding a bike. You’ll get your heart rate up in an eco-friendly way. Another option: Instead of socializing at a restaurant or bar, invite a friend to join you on a walk for a free way to catch up.
- Pack lunch. Instead of picking up breakfast or lunch on-the-go, pack something to eat at work or in a park—not only will you be prepared with food that you know will help you meet your weight loss goals, you’ll cut down on waste in the process by forgoing paper napkins, plastic carry bags, and disposable utensils. Bonus: Many foods that you can eat freely to satisfy your appetite with Slimming World come in their own wrapper, like hard-boiled eggs, apples, bananas, and oranges. Stock up on a few glass or plastic food storage containers (look for ones that are free from BPA, a chemical that may have harmful effects on humans and the environment), and stash a set of metal utensils and a cloth napkin in a desk drawer.
- Carry a water bottle. Instead of grabbing soda or juice when you’re out, pack along a reusable water bottle instead to cut down on plastic waste. Look for bottles that can keep liquids hot or cold, then fill it up with water, coffee, tea or diet soda to stay hydrated and on plan.
