Whether you’re throwing a party or visiting a parade, Mardi Gras is definitely a celebration not to be missed—and with our weight loss friendly ways to cook, you won’t have to!

Have a healthy Mardi Gras

With flavor-filled Cajun and Creole cuisine on the menu, plus sweet treats and drinks galore, how does healthy eating fit into the festivities? Well, with Slimming World, you can enjoy a merry-making Mardi Gras serving up all your favorites! Check out our filling feast ideas and let the good times roll…

Step 1: Stock up on…
Cajun and Creole staples like rice, skinless chicken, lean pork, crawfish, shrimp, peppers, onions, okra, tomatoes, celery, black and red beans, and Tabasco sauce. These are all Free Foods on our Food Optimizing plan—foods that are filling and low in calories for their weight, so you can eat to satisfy your appetite, without counting or weighing. Free Food is the key to keeping your weight loss on track this Mardi Gras!

Step 2: Go easy on…
• King cake: This traditional Mardi Gras sweet bread ring with colorful glaze topping has a surprise inside—a small trinket (often a small plastic baby, said to represent Baby Jesus). The person who gets the piece of cake with the trinket in is expected to host next year’s party. That’s not the only surprise, though—this sugary cake really stacks up in Syns and just one slice could easily be more than a whole day’s allowance!
• Muffuletta: With salami, three types of cheese, oily olive salad and oil-soaked Italian bread, this sandwich is a Syn-packed snack! Make your own Food Optimizing version instead using a Healthy Extra allowance of bread and cheese, and 6 olives (1 Syn).

Step 3: Chow down on…
Gumbo? Burgers? Jambayala? Chili bowls? Yes, you can! There really is no end to the crowd-pleasing meals you can make with your Mardi Gras-friendly Free Food ingredients. Try our spicy Cajun chicken with potato wedges and corn; smoky Black-eyed pea and vegetable chili, or flavorful Shrimp and ham jambalaya (above) and serve up a filling and festive feast your friends and family will love, too.

Happy Mardi Gras!
