“Moments after stepping out my front door and walking along the sidewalk, I paused, exhausted. I realized I couldn’t make it to the end of my street. That was when I knew something had to change. I went out so rarely, except for work, that I was close to becoming a recluse. Now my mobility was seriously affected, too—as I was getting bigger, my world was shrinking.
"I can't remember a time apart from a brief period in my late teens when I wasn't classed as clinically obese. Breakfast: Two double sausage and egg muffins
Lunch: Six ham, tomato and cucumber sandwiches, followed by two bags of chips
Dinner: Takeout or shepherd’s pie frozen meal with oven fries
Evening: Two or three bottles of wine and a sharing bag of tortilla chips
Breakfast: High-fiber cereal with almond milk, berries and a banana
Lunch: Leftovers from the previous evening’s meal, such as couscous mixed with mackerel, pickles (no sugar added), mushrooms and onions, or a baked potato with fat-free plain cottage cheese or tuna and salad
Dinner: Homemade chili made with 95% lean ground beef with steamed rice
Evening: Berries with fat-free plain yogurt, apples, pickles (no sugar added)
